Current research in cognitive neuroscience shows that cultivating mindfulness in the classroom offers many benefits for both the teachers as well as students. Mindfulness promotes the regulation of emotion, attention, thought and behavior. These executive functions are strengthened in teachers who have mindfulness training and since teachers set the emotional tone for the classroom, learning mindfulness techniques helps them create a more effective learning environment.
Current data shows that nearly 50 percent of new teachers leave the profession within their first five years of teaching. Developing a mindfulness practice in schools is learnable and offers many benefits for both the teachers as well as the students including: an inner sense of calm and clarity, improved concentration, focus, and attention. It also promotes teacher engagement, excitement, empowerment, and satisfaction. This in turn, reduces teacher burnout resulting in greater teacher retention.
In this fast paced technologically advanced world sometimes, as educators, we just need to stop…before we can continue… to breathe… to pay attention in the present moment…and bring mindfulness into the classroom.
It is of great value to learn how to equip students with an inner reservoir of tools like resilience, calming strategies, relaxation techniques and tools for self-awareness, modulation and regulation. A toolbox filled with these things will certainly help them better navigate through our changing times.

What others are saying
"Thank you so much for providing us with such a meaningful and successful workshop. As we mentioned at the time we all felt that you did a masterful job of meeting each of our teachers at the exact point at which they are currently holding in regard to mindfulness. This is an extremely difficult task which you seemed to achieve with ease. We know that much effort and mindfulness went into your preparation. We look forward to continuing this relationship." ~ Rabbi Michael Weichselbaum, Menahel/Principal Bnos Malka Academy, NY
“I thought you'd like to know that a group of the teachers in our pre school have been meditating every morning in one of the classrooms. It's five weeks today since we started. What a wonderful addition to our day! Thank you so much for your workshop which provided us with the inspiration to do this.” ~Rosemary Cunningham, Teacher, Stephen Wise Early Childhood Center, NYC
